More often than not, the universal panacea suggested\/\r\noffered for any of the ailments which stem from a deep\r\n(though sometimes dormant) distrust (at best) to blinding\r\nanimosity (at worst) takes some form of 'awareness\r\ncampaigns', a nebulous idea which could, in practice,\r\nrange from a political leader making placatory speeches\r\nat places of worship, to a march of some sort, to the\r\nsome what quieter alternatives of niche publishing,\r\ndissemination of material or working in and with \r\ncommunities. All these have their validity, but is it not\r\ntime that we examined what it is in us (or rather, what\r\nit is that we lack in ourselves) that allows these \r\nsituations to develop? Could we, perhaps, trace it back\r\nto the absence of any true system of holistic education\r\nthat is essentially humanizing, that makes both teaching\r\nand learning 'a physical, emotional and sensuous \r\nexperience'? Could we also suggest that this has its\r\nsource in a certain unwillingness in the powers that be\r\n(whether educationists, education boards, school \r\nauthorities, teachers, parents or indeed, students\r\nthemselves) to tackle delicate and problematic issues in\r\na proactive and creative way, or even to keep these\r\nissues in mind in the course of teaching related or even\r\novertly unrelated topics?\r\n<\/span><\/pre>\n
